Anything that floats can be fished from so technically all stable kayaks can be considered fishing kayaks. However there are different ways to kayak fish. Jigging, whipping, and bait fishing don't require speed and if you're not trying to go very far then all stable kayaks will work. If you plan to troll, trying to get to the more remote fishing sites, or cover more ground then you'll want a kayak that has more speed. The longer and narrower the kayak the faster they go as well as less effort is needed to propel them but there is a line where too narrow becomes too unstable for fishing. Kayak fishing is the fastest growing segment of the kayaking industry and there are a lot of kayaks being made specifically for fishing with features designed specifically for that purpose. Unfortunately a lot of pre-designed fishing kayaks were not made for catching the larger ocean species and the equipment that the factory mounts has been pulling out of the kayaks or breaking. At Go Bananas we will customize any kayak for your needs. We install hatches, rod holders, rudder systems, speargun mounts, bungee trees, and motor mounts.
